This is a question that many people ask us.
Firstly, the Javelin Original & Javelin-Lite share many of features with each other and are manufactured to the same high quality standards.
They share a 7075 aluminium body which CNC machined from a solid billet, making both of them equally strong.
They are both given a hard anodised black finish for corrosion resistance.
They both share the same 12mm magnetic spigot, for direct attachment to the full range of Spartan rifle adapters which include:
- Universal Adapter
- Universal Gunsmith Adapter
- Classic Gunsmith Adapter
- Picatinny Adapter
- Universal M-Lok Adapter
- 'Universal Key-Mod Adapter
- Universal Anshutz / UIT Adapter
Both bipods permit any attached rifle up to 15-degrees cant to enable the rifle & scope to be levelled on uneven ground. Both bipods offer up to 30-degrees left & right traverse capability, to track a target that moves.
They can both also be fitted into the adapter in the reverse position, which effectively locks the traverse function. This has the real advantage of making shooting 'system' (bipod -rifle -shooter), steadier for longer range shots or zeroing work at the range.
So what's the difference?
Essentially the difference is in the legs units of these bipods
The Javelin Original comes with a two-piece carbon fibre legs, the upper legs of which are permanently bonded into the body of the bipod.
The Javelin Original is offered with 'Standard' length & 'Long' length leg units.
Height adjustment is possible by extending the lower leg section of the Javelin Original, which can be manually locked at different heights, enabling the user to adjust the overall height which the rifle can be used at, to cater for different terrain or muzzle clearance.
A selection of lower leg extensions are available for the Javelin Original, as accessories, so users can achieve a raised shooting position, especially for kneeling or seated shooting.
These leg extensions can installed into the upper leg of the Javelin Original the field without tools.
The impetus for us to introduce the Javelin-Lite came sometime after our original design.
We wanted to produce a more cost-effective bipod, that would be attractive to users that wanted an ultra-lightweight minimalist bipod
We felt that It was important that we retained the high engineering & production standards that we already had achieved with the Javelin Original. This meant that we had to exclude options to use cheaper materials or production methods.
With the design work that we undertook with the newer Javelin Pro-Hunt bipod, we decided to offer the Javelin-Lite with a simple one-piece fixed leg design.
These legs can be threaded directly into the body of the bipod.
This would be suitable for users that often found that they didn't need adjustable leg lengths when they shot.
In return for the Javelin-Lite could be more affordable for us to produce and enable us to pass on these savings to our for the customers.
We also felt that it was important to give the customers that invested in the Javelin-Lite the opportunity to change or upgrade their leg options at a later stage, if they felt the need, without going to the expense of buying a whole new bipod.
Initially, Javelin Lite owners can choose from the three single section fixed-length legs.
Additional leg in any of the different lengths can be purchased as accessories.
If at a later point they feel that they need the full functionality of a height-adjustable leg, then they can choose from one of the new 'Pro-Leg' range.
These leg units consist of a two-piece carbon fibre legs that again will thread directly into the body of the bipod but give the user a selection of adjustable leg lengths:
80cm (At full extension) These are good for seated or kneeling shots,
160cm (At full extension) these will enable someone around 6'00" / 180cm tall, to shoot from a kneeling or slightly stooped standing shooting stance.
